DEAR SAIKORIAN,
This is in continuation of the letter from the President of Vizag chapter, Mr. R.V.Leela Prasad regarding the formation of an adhoc committee comprising of the undersigned. We sincerely accept the very important responsibility conferred upon us for building a fund for Reconstruction of our School, which is so dear to all of us. We are so proud of being a Saikorian and having passed out of one of the best schools in our country with facilities and infrastructure comparable to the best of schools. Most of us can remember the days when we were served food in our mess with complete regalia, with spoons, forks, and pudding spoons etc, served in porcelain plates. Our houses had clean toilets, good and comfortable beds and study tables. Our class rooms had very good furniture and we never felt the lack of facilities for sports or various clubs like aero-modeling and ship-modeling. We were very proud to show around the school to any of our guests who visited us then. But not anymore.
We visited the school recently and were shocked to see the condition of our houses, the beds were broken, and the mattresses were so bad that we will not allow our children to sleep on them. The study tables were a pitiable sight to see. The toilets were horrible with broken floors, leaking taps and the stink was unbearable. And we had to squirm in shame when a non saikorian among us commented that our school is worse than a Government high school. And he is absolutely right, the present conditions are such.
We are partly to be blamed for this . We let this happen under our own eyes. Our school has become old and crippled. It needs our immediate care, after all that we received from school; we owe a debt of gratitude to our Alma Mater. Most of the Saikorians are well placed in life, who owe their success to the School, and are capable of helping it to regain its past glory. So that every student that passes out shall be as proud of our school as we were. And we shall not have the ignominy of someone comparing our School to an ordinary Govt. High school. If we loose any further time, we will have to see a slow and undignified death of our own Alma Mater.
Come- be a part of this holy movement in trying to bring back the old glory to our School.
The two most important and immediate things we propose to take up are:
1) Creation or inculcation of brotherhood among all Saikorians.
2) Reconstruction of our Schools infrastructure and facilities.
CREATION OF BROTHERHOOD :
We start by citing an example. Sainik School Kazakootam in Kerala has two full time employees stationed in the school to co-ordinate the activities of the Old-Boys. Their Old boys association has collected a fund of around 100 lakhs and is actively involved in the development activities of their school. Their association office at school keeps in touch with all the members on a regular basis. The necessary leads will be given to any member in need of help, by giving the names or contact information of the nearest member by way of proximity or location.
We need to build up in similar lines. For which, we require a data base of latest and updated addresses of all the 3500 odd saikorians passed out from school and located all over the world. This has the tremendous advantages of locating and approaching for any help they could do, irrespective of the social status or standing one might be. This need might arise to any one of us at any place on earth.
We are sure that all of us are ready to help a needy Saikorian in anyway possible by us in our individual capacity not by virtue of knowing him personally, but just for being a fellow Saikorian.
The web site
http://www.saikors.com run by T.Ravi (813) already contains a data base for about 1500 addresses. It needs to be updated regularly.
G.Srinivas Kumar (GSK)(1634) has agreed to take up this very important task. We request all of you to either contact him by mail/phone/post to give your latest details or register/update your details in
www.saikors.com
. All required information about GSK can be found in the same site. He is actively involved in bringing out a directory of all saikorians very soon. Please pass on this information to every saikorian you know to register in the above site or send their details to Mr. G.S.Kumar.
Your cooperation is vital in this endeavor.
RECONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOLS INFRASTRUCTURE :
At the AGM, our school Principal made a passionate appeal to all of us for help. Apart from what he said we all know of the condition of our Palace, Administrative block, houses, mess, quarters which need urgent repairs. Or else they might even collapse very soon. The mattresses for the boys cannot be repaired any more and are to be replaced. The furniture in our classes and our reading rooms are also to be replaced immediately.
All these and many more are to be tackled immediately.
It is highly appreciated by all, that the batch of 1976-84 has built a concrete basket ball court and the batch of 1977-85 is building a squash court for the school. This they have undertaken in their individual capacities out of their love for the school.
By no way belittling their great effort, we propose that all such funds must be channelised and pooled into one centralized account and spent according to the priorities actually required by the school.
This committee is at present formed by the undersigned. We propose to call this committee as School Reconstruction Committee comprising of the undersigned. The main functions of this committee shall be to build a consensus among saikorians and build a fund for School reconstruction. This committee shall not have the authority to withdraw or utilise this fund in any way.
An account in the name of Association Saikorian- TEAM ( T ogether forever and E ver loyal to our A lma M ater) is proposed to be opened at Visakhapatnam overseen by the President of the Vizag Chapter.
All efforts will be put into collecting maximum possible donations from saikorians for this, very just and urgent cause.
Nobody shall have the authority to utilize these funds until a sufficient amount is collected and a standing committee is constituted by the President of Vizag Chapter comprising among others the Principal, Representatives of other chapters, the School Captain etc. This committee alone has to decide upon the utilization of the funds for reconstruction. And is answerable to the Presidents of the Central committee and all the chapters.
It is also brought to your notice that any individual or a collection of individuals (batches) can sponsor for any particular item and they would be credited by advertising or displaying their names on those items. For example one batch can sponsor one particular item, for which they would be credited in way of displaying their names prominently.
Lieutenant JVVS Murthy (1079), now Managing Director, Rajamahendri Shipping Ltd, has already promised to contribute Rs.50,000/- for providing new study tables in Kakaitya house. (He was the captain of Kakatiya house for two years 1974-76 and so his attachment) and all the new desks will bear a metal tag displaying his name as the donor permanently.
After detailed discussions with the Principal, we had short listed some of the most immediate things which need our urgent attention are: (not in order of priority)
1) Providing new study tables in all houses (Kakatiya house is booked by JVVS Murthy (1079).
2) Providing new mattresses and pillows in all houses.
3) Providing new tables and chairs (preferably indalium) for the mess.
4) Redoing of flooring in the Mess and Kitchen.
5) Providing new ceiling fans in 4 junior houses.
6) Completion of Periphery wall, which is partly done.
7) Improvement of sewerage system.
8) Providing public address system in all houses and class rooms.
9) Re-wiring and repair street lighting.
10) Providing furniture in class rooms.
11) Tiling and renovation of house toilets.
12) Renovation of Administrative block.
13) Renovation and repairs to houses.
14) Repairs to water lines from Gosthani to school.
15) Providing equipment to computer lab.
Or, anything else you can think of..
The above are only proposals made by us and so; your valuable suggestions are welcome.
Thanking you for spending your valuable time in going through this lengthy mail, we are sure that all of you would appreciate the sincere efforts being put up by the under signed.
We pledge that we shall strive to keep all saikorians Together forever and Ever Loyal to our Alma mater.
With this we appeal to all saikorians to contribute generously to this fund, individually or collectively to bring back the old youthfulness into our aged School.
Thank you.
