Dear Saikorians,
We the members of the Reconstruction Committee along with the President of Vizag chapter, Mr.Leela Prasad have visited our School last sunday the 14 th september. We had actually planned the trip to make an on-the-spot survey of the requirements as pointed out by the Principal.
As we were traveling from Vizag, our minds got carried away to the years long ago when we were carefree, healthy and happy and living in a peaceful environment. There is the pleasure of recollecting, of remembering where, how and with whom we lived in the early, formative years of our lives; recollections of school days, the gain and pain of learning and of teachers respected, and feared at times, who patiently encouraged us in the process. Among us were the diligent and the indolent, the brainy and the not so bright.
We go on to think of the larger life which followed, of work and play, and the relationships which brought us the love of our country for the society, marriage, home-making and children; workmates and lasting friendships and also with those who shared our hobbies, recreations and organisations.
Life being full of surprises and set-backs there were disappointments, too, and illnesses and bereavements in which we showed our sympathy. When we picture people we know it is to realise that many suffer much and some die young. The great mystery of life is how this selection happens, for it can be the apparently healthy who pass on when the sickly remain. We grieve as we think of those who promised much in life but whose journey was short.
Our sympathies to the family of Mr.VGM Prasad roll no 128, who left us so early.
But life must go on.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep
As we entered the school, we were first shocked to see that the Mango groove, which was a part of every saikorians life, is dying. Most of the trees are completely dead. If only seeing is believing,
Click here. This, we were told was because of over exploitation by the people who contracted the mangoes, their indiscriminate use of pesticides has killed the trees.
Next, we entered the Instruction block. We had the opportunity to click a typical class room. If you want to see the photographs
Click here. Can we ask you one question? Is this befitting for a school with such a glorious history? We leave it to you to decide. We recommend that you show these photographs to your friends or your children and ask for their comments.
Dining hall was our next stop. Initially, we each had a separate chair, were served in porcelain plates. And walking into the Dining Hall was a pleasure. But now
look at the make shift benches , six students sharing one, and bent like the bridge over river Hoogly. Every saikorian's conscience should prick. Is this the school, we are so proud of? And we were told that the tables are the same since mess was started. The bath rooms were more disgusting than those at any of the public toilets at our bus stations.
Then we had time just to inspect one senior house and one junior house. We went to Chalukya house and then to Pandya. The boys were playing TT with a net made of newspapers. Click to see.
Look at the study desks . Barely made to stand on its feet.
Look at the beds broken and dangerous for the students to use them. The mattresses merely one inch thick , The Bath r
,ooms were messy and un-hygienic. Discolored walls full of moss. The doors, rotten and falling.
Last, we went around the staff quarters.
Sunshades have fallen , intelligent among them have propped their shades with supports.
We are sure all of you would agree with us that in this critical moment for the school, Alumni as in the case of few other Sainik Schools in the country should come forward in participation for the reconstruction, apart from trying our best to use good offices of those who are in responsible positions in various walks of life . We address this letter to all saikorians to come forward with suggestions and help.
We are eager to collect as much money as possible to forward it to the Execution Committee, which would be formed soon by the Association Saikorian comprising of the principal, school captain, members of various chapters etc, who would get the jobs executed at school.
.
